Company cars and parking for a multi-month Málaga placement
A practical guide for HR and Global Mobility teams deciding whether an assignee in Málaga needs a company car, how city parking actually works, and why corporate housing with parking in Málaga removes a recurring monthly cost and admin burden.

Decide the car question before you book the accommodation
The order matters. If you choose accommodation first and the car second, you can end up paying twice — once for a vehicle the assignee barely uses, and again for a monthly parking space near a building that has none. Deciding whether the placement needs a car, and then selecting corporate housing with parking in Málaga to match, is cheaper and simpler than fixing it later.
The deciding factor is almost always the daily commute, not the city. Málaga has a genuinely usable public transport network, walkable central districts and short taxi hops, so an assignee working in or near the centre often needs no vehicle at all. An assignee reporting daily to an industrial estate, a client site outside the metropolitan area, or a business park on the western edge of the city will want one. Establish the work location and the expected travel pattern with the hiring manager before you commit to either a lease or a fleet allocation.
When an assignee genuinely needs a car
In practice, four patterns justify a vehicle for a multi-month placement:
- Daily commuting to an out-of-centre site. Málaga TechPark, for example, is roughly 19 minutes by car from central Málaga, about 17 km. That is a straightforward drive and a less straightforward journey by bus at either end of the working day.
- Multi-site or regional travel. Consultants and engineers covering Andalusia — Seville, Granada, Córdoba, the Costa del Sol corridor — need their own vehicle, and repeated rental bookings quickly cost more than a single allocation.
- Unsociable or shift hours. Where the work pattern falls outside normal service frequencies, a car is a duty-of-care decision as much as a convenience one.
- Family placements. An assignee arriving with a partner and school-age children usually needs a car regardless of where the office is.
Equally, three patterns argue against it. If the assignee works in the historic centre or a central business district, a car is a liability rather than an asset — much of central Málaga is restricted or pedestrianised, and street parking is scarce. If the placement is heavily airport-based, taxis and the train are faster than parking at the terminal. And if the employee will not hold a licence recognised for driving in Spain for the full duration of the assignment, the question resolves itself. Licence recognition and exchange rules depend on nationality and residence status and change over time; check the current position with your immigration adviser or the Spanish traffic authority rather than assuming last year's answer still holds.
What parking actually costs a placement in admin, not just money
Monthly parking in a Málaga garage is a separate contract, in Spanish, usually with its own deposit, its own payment method and its own notice period. For a Global Mobility team that means a second supplier, a second invoice to reconcile, and a second thing that can go wrong in week one — which is exactly when the assignee is least able to deal with it.
There is also the arrival gap. A company car delivered on day one has to go somewhere on day one. Residential streets around central Málaga fill up in the evening, and a new arrival circling for a space at 21:00 after a long travel day is a poor start to an assignment. Where parking is part of the housing, the vehicle has a home from the moment it is handed over.
Before approving a placement, confirm in writing:
- whether a space is included in the accommodation or contracted separately
- whether it is on site, gated or on the street
- the vehicle size the space accepts, before fleet allocates a car
- who is invoiced for it and on what cycle
- what happens to the space if the assignment is extended
How corporate housing with parking in Málaga simplifies the file
This is the practical case for choosing housing that already includes a space. At Palacete 10, each of the five residences comes with one secure on-site parking space behind a gated entrance — five spaces in total for the building. It sits on the housing contract, not a separate one, and appears on the same monthly Spanish VAT (IVA) invoice as the residence itself. One supplier, one contract, one invoice for your finance department.
That matters for two reasons beyond convenience. First, cost visibility: parking is inside the accommodation line of the assignment budget rather than an untracked reimbursement the assignee claims back. Second, continuity: if the placement extends, the space extends with the lease rather than needing to be renegotiated with a garage operator who may have let it in the meantime. Where a company takes the whole building, all five spaces come with it on the same single contract — useful for project teams arriving together with a shared or pooled vehicle. You can see how parking sits alongside the other shared provision on the amenities page.
Briefing the assignee, car or no car
Whichever way the decision goes, the arrival briefing should be specific. If there is a car, tell the employee where the space is, how the gate works, and what to do about a hire vehicle in the days before the fleet car arrives. If there is no car, give them the actual alternatives rather than a general reassurance: from Palacete 10, public transport is a one-minute walk, everyday shops, cafés, supermarkets and pharmacies are also a minute away, the historic centre is a 15-minute walk or 1 km, María Zambrano train station is 10 minutes and Málaga Airport 16 minutes. Those numbers are set out on the location page and are the ones to paste into the arrival pack.
A carless placement in a well-connected, non-tourist neighbourhood is often the better outcome: less cost, less risk, no parking admin, and an assignee who is productive without needing to drive anywhere first. Where a vehicle is genuinely required, the accommodation should absorb the parking rather than adding a supplier.
If you are scoping a placement and need to know what is available and when, request availability — enquiries are answered within 24 hours.
