Corporate housing near the Vodafone Innovation Hub in Málaga

Vodafone's Innovation Campus sits in Martiricos, across the Guadalmedina from Palacete 10. What engineers, consultants and project teams placed with the hub need from a multi-month residence, and what to settle in the contract.

Vodafone in Martiricos, and why location now matters

Vodafone chose Málaga for its European research and development centre in 2021 and opened it in 2022, with a plan to invest €225 million over five years and create more than 600 highly qualified jobs. In September 2023 the Vodafone Innovation Hub opened its Innovation Campus in University of Málaga premises in Martiricos, with room for more than 250 professionals working on IoT, 5G, private mobile networks and Open RAN.

That puts a sizeable technology workforce in a part of the city most visitors never see. Martiricos sits on the west bank of the Guadalmedina, just north of the historic centre. Palacete 10 is directly across the river, within walking distance of the campus. For a company placing engineers, consultants or project staff with the hub, or with any of the firms that work around it, corporate housing near the Vodafone Innovation Hub in Málaga means a residence the person can walk to work from.

Who needs housing around an R&D centre

Research centres hire internationally, and they rarely do it in neat annual cohorts. A specialist joins for a six-month Open RAN trial. A partner company sends two engineers to integrate with a pilot. A new hire accepts a permanent role but needs somewhere to live while they decide which part of Málaga suits them. A manager from another Vodafone market comes over for a quarter to set up a team.

Each of those is a temporary stay with a clear professional reason and a known end, or at least a known review point. A hotel suits the first week. After that, someone living out of a room with no kitchen, no washing machine and no space to work starts to cost more in goodwill than it saves in admin. An unfurnished long-term rental is the opposite problem: the employee has to furnish it, set up utilities and commit to a term that outlasts the assignment.

What a multi-month stay actually requires

For a stay measured in months, the residence has to work as a home. That means a proper kitchen, a separate living area, a bathroom of one's own, a washer and dryer, reliable internet and climate control that the occupant sets for themselves.

Each of Palacete 10's five residences is furnished and move-in ready, with Bolia interiors, a fully equipped kitchen, an in-unit washer and dryer, air conditioning and heating, and its own Wi-Fi network running off the building's high-speed fibre. Every residence has a private terrace. Entry is by smart keyless access, so an engineer landing on a late flight does not need anyone to meet them with a key. The residences page sets out the five layouts.

Working outside office hours

Technology teams work across time zones. An early call with a team in Asia, or a late one with North America, is easier somewhere other than the bedroom. Palacete 10 has a residents-only work suite on site, open 24 hours a day, so a resident has a place to work that is in the building but not in their own living space. Details are on the amenities page.

When a team arrives, not one person

R&D work tends to come in projects, and projects bring several people at once or in waves. Housing them at different addresses means different landlords, different check-in arrangements and different invoices for the person coordinating the project.

Palacete 10 has five independent residences in one restored 1908 villa, with nine en-suite bedrooms in total. A company can take one residence, several, or all five for exclusive use, under a single corporate agreement. Each person keeps a private home; the project manager deals with one operator. Each residence also comes with one secure on-site parking space, which matters for anyone whose role involves travel to Málaga TechPark, 19 minutes away by car, or to the airport, 16 minutes away.

The contract, now that the law has changed

Since 8 October 2026, temporary housing in Spain is governed by new rules introduced by Real Decreto-ley 29/2026. A temporary lease must state the real, provable reason the tenant is away from their usual home, should generally run for more than 31 days and no more than 12 months, and is treated as an ordinary residential lease if that reason is missing. The decree-law still needs to be validated by Congress, so check the position at the time you sign. The blog has a fuller article on what the change means for a corporate placement.

In practice, before arranging a residence, settle who the contracting company is, who will live there and why, the start and end dates, what is included, and how an extension or early end will be handled. Palacete 10 contracts company to company, with one supplier, one contract and one monthly VAT-compliant invoice. Every residence includes a €200 monthly allowance for electricity and water.
